From time to time it is pretty important that we as people
get out and experience the things that people from other cultures have. I
recently had an amazing experience by having some Dominican Republic food. I
really love having these different experiences and trying new things, and
honestly this is the very first time that I experience food from Dominican
Republic, or at least the food that people here in Provo made that resembles
the food in the Dominican Republic. I was able to go to this restaurant called La Tropical down here in the city of Provo, Utah. It was a really fun night! Went
into the building probably around 4 or 5 in the evening. Because we went so
early there wasn't really any other diners there, and we enjoyed the dinner by
ourselves without being overwhelmed by the conversations of others. The menu was
what I expected out of the establishment, there were dishes with rice and
different types of meats. I am NOT one that is fluent in Spanish or Portuguese
so it is hard to recall the name of the meal that I ordered. It was a dish with
lots of rice and a large stack of these shreds of chicken. The food, meat I
mean, reminding me a lot of kebab. Kebab was a dish that I had often in
Sweden. I am pretty sure that it originates in the Middle East, it is
essentially meat that got turned around above a fire on a spit and then
sliced into pieces. It may not have been made the same way with the chicken I
had here at the restaurant but it was amazing! Aside from the kebab I had which
is really tender and moist the meat I had here had a little more of the crisp
to it, which I loved! The meal took a lot longer being prepared than it should have been, we waited about an hour before we were served. However the family
that runs the establishment were all really nice people. The place was not
decorated all too much, but there was some nice music in the background that was
not overwhelming to be customers. The meal turned out to be roughly 10 or 12
dollars, but it was worth every dollar of it! Still the wait kind of threw
me off a little but it is something that can be overlooked. I will for sure
come back to this restaurant in the future when I am in the neighborhood!
